Microchip your Pet - AKC Companion Animal Recovery

Microchip your Pet - Luv My Pet

Micro-chipping is a simple and effective way to make sure that your pet can be easily identified should you become separated.   A small microchip, (about the size of a grain of rice) is inserted under the loose skin on the back of your pet's neck. This coded inserted chip remains a permanent means of identification of your pet.   Your pet is registered on a national database, and a hand-held scanner at the nearest veterinary surgery or dog pound can easily read the chip when your pet is found and you will be reunited.

New Jersey Dog Parks
Although this is a great website in general for fun stuff in NJ, here's the link for the dog parks.  Dog parks are great, if your dog is sociable (and vaccinated).  Even so, it is important to pay complete attention to your dog's interactions with others, as you never know who might be having a bad day.

"Paw It" Forward - Charities

Teaching Kids to Read with your Dog
This sounds like such a great program to me.  Click on 'R.E.A.D. Program' to get more information about teaching kids to read with the assistance of a good dog.  I don't know if there's a program here on the east coast. Maybe we can combine good shelter dogs with this program?

Adopt a Pet
A wonderful website for locating shelters in your area.  Thank you Petfinder.com!

"Click" to Give Free Food & Care
You click daily - Sponsors pay for food & care.

The Hounds and Harriers 3-mile Run
I wasn't sure whether to put this under FUN with your dog or "Paw It" Forward.  It is both fun and an annual fundraiser for St. Hubert's Animal Shelter.  It is a 3-mile run WITH YOUR DOG.  Check out the videos - do you think these dogs are having fun???  Also if you don't have a dog, they're always looking for volunteers - it's a fun day!

St. Hubert's Animal Shelter
St. Hubert's Animal Shelter is wonderfully creative with their fundraisers.  Check this site out regularly for fun and charitable things to do with your pets and for their shelter animals.  For example, there's a wonderful wine tasting event in November at the Morris Museum.
